The brief case makes its presence felt throughout the movie. When it is opened, there is a glow that it emits which lights up the faces of Jules (Samuel L Jackson) and Vincent (John Travolta). They are both point men working for Marcellus Wallace. Since the brief case is opened after Jules and Vincent have escaped from the jaws of death, it has been suggested that the light is a sign that God has forgiven their sins and has given them one last chance.
Another theory is that the briefcase contains gold which is symptomatic of mans quest for material pleasures. It is possible that the briefcase contains watch that belonged to Bruce Willis's father. Willis's fathers friend, played by Christopher Walken tells Willis how he hid his father's watch. He gives the watch to Willis but because the film does not follow a linear chronological format, it is possible that the watch is in the briefcase.
