Despite numerous Internet rumors, all evidence suggests the American rap artist Tupac is no longer alive.
He was killed in 1996, when he was victim to a shooting crime in the Las Vegas area. He was shot four times, and after six days in the University Medical Center in the state of Nevada, he passed away due to respiratory failure and a heart attack.
Tupac - otherwise known as 2pac or simply 'Pac' - made his rapping debut in the 1991 film 'Nothing but Trouble'. His vocals featured in the film's soundtrack as part of the band Digital Underground's 'Same Song'. When the song was later released as a single, Tupac appeared in its music video. He then performed with Digital Underground again, after which he released his first solo album - '2Pacalpse Now' - after becoming established with many rap fans.
After a moderately successful solo career, in 1993 Tupac formed his own band 'Thug Life'. The band's first album reached gold status in the US. The band went on to tour with this album, although Tupac couldn't perform with his band as he had earlier been sent to prison.
During a sexual abuse trial, in which Tupac was accused (and found guilty) of sexually assaulting a woman after a night out, the rapper was shot five times - twice in the head, twice in the groin and once in the arm. Miraculously, he survived the attack, which was believed to have been carried out by rival gang members. After being treated in hospital for the wounds, Tupac was discharged only hours later. The next day he was sent to prison for his offense.
Many consider the fact he was shot nine times before succumbing to death to be Tupac's legacy. His background is considered just as prolific as his rap career in Tupac's fame.
