Jason Schwarzmann Profile
Mikey Welsh is a musician and artist, notable for his stint in the indie rock band Weezer between the years 2000 and 2001.

Welsh technically joined the band after original bassist Matt Sharp left in 1998 to pursue his own band, The Rentals. Although Weezer were on hiatus from 1998 onwards and didn't start touring again until 2000 in support of a self-titled album, affectionately named The Green Album by fans due to the color of its cover art, Welsh played with Weezer front man Rivers Cuomo in his new band Homie.

Welsh left the band in the fall of 2001 after a mental breakdown and attempted suicide, which he attributed to having an undiagnosed "disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and borderline personality disorder". He gave up music in favor of becoming a full-time artist.

He died on October 8th in his hotel room in Chicago. No cause has been attributed to the tragic death as yet, but it is suspected a drug overdose may have been involved. Welsh posted on his Twitter account on 26th September: "dreamt i died in chicago next weekend (heart attack in my sleep). Need to write my will today".

He was 40 years old.

See below to see a video of Mikey performing with Weezer on the song 'Hash Pipe' in the official video for the track.
