Music has a huge influence on the experience of watching a movie. The theme song to a film can help to form the message that a movie is trying to portray. Music within a scene of a film is also vital to set the mood and feel.

It has been scientifically-proven that different types of music can help a person express certain emotions and moods. Relaxing and happy music can help reduce blood pressure, heart rate and inspire and relax us. In contrast, aggressive music can cause a viewer to become angry and/or energised.

Music to set the scene.
Music (along with a movie's imagery) is the only method of portraying a scene before the dialogue enters. Therefore music has a huge physiological impact on the viewer's emotions and viewing experience.

Star Wars has one of the most enduring and powerful soundtracks of any film. The musical pieces in the films are excellent examples of how music can set a scene. For example when the evil empire or Darth Vader are in a scene, then the music is generally in a minor key, powerful and intimidating...

However, when the rebel alliance (the good guys) are in a scene, or are winning a battle against the empire, then the music is happier, in a major key and provokes hope and relief in the viewer's thoughts. In this scene, when the characters manage to escape execution, the imagery the musical score creates changes dramatically.
