My brother is the one more likely to do something
like that and for our mother's birthday he pulled one.
He had a new girlfriend and Ma didn't know her
very well ,yet.  He took Ma aside and told her that his girlfriend
wasn't a very good cook, but she'd made a birthday cake.
He wanted to warn her so she wouldn't hurt the girlfriend's feelings.
So the girlfriend comes out of the kitchen, proudly bearing
her baking efforts and sat her sponge cake on the table in front
our mother.  Ma tried to cut the cake, going light like you do
when slicing a cake, but the cake wasn't cutting.  Afraid to
embarrass the girl, she pressed down just a little more.
About the third or fourth try at cutting, you could almost see
the light go on.  Ma started stabbing the cake, which in truth
was a SPONGE cake.    A sponge covered with chocolate
frosting and with 'Happy Birthday' written on top.  His birthday
in February.   I wonder how she's going to get him in turn.

Only if I was sure it would be completely harmless and in good taste.

I don't play practical jokes on anyone because they could back fire.

Only if I knew the "victim" for several years, and that the stunt, whatever it was, would not have any lasting impact on his/her career, reputation, or finances.  In other words, it would have to be totally harmless, as far as "damages" were concerned.

Exactly as some others say-always, but in fun and not to intentionally harm in any way shape or form.

I probably would be the type to play a practical joke in the right situation but i will not play on anything that they fear or leaves negative results.
