The Matrix (1999)

Back in the day, I found The Matrix one of the most inspiring movies ever. I was a bit obsessed with it when the first one came out.

It made me even more interested in technology and the way we interact with machines.

It was also one of the first movies (after Hackers) that I'd seen which made being a geek sitting in front of a screen look really cool:

At the time, I was also really into making electronic music, so I used to sample sounds and quotes from The Matrix quite a lot too.

Dead Poets Society (1989)

In a similar way as The Matrix, I liked Dead Poets Society because it made something that I enjoyed doing at the time (writing poetry) seem cool and edgy.

Even though I've kind of lost the 'poetic muse' that used to inspire me to write weird little verses in the style of William Borough, I still think it's an awesome (albeit tragic) film:

GROUND HOG'S DAY starring Bill Murray.  It shows the transformation of a selfish, self-centered person into a thoughtful, sensitive, caring individual.  He keeps repeating the same day, until he gets it right.  To me, it shows the purpose of life and reincarnation.

THE TRUMAN SHOW starring Jim Carey.  It shows the illusions of this world.  If people only knew what a tightly run Training Academy Earth is, they would be stunned.  Everything plays to a script.  SOUL's struggle is to see through the illusion, and finally escape.  Classic.

THE MATRIX starring Keanu Reeves.  Again, the movie shows a SOUL..Neo, escaping a world of illusion, for a greater reality, which ultimately leads to him "Mastering the illusion", and freeing others from it's grip.  Folks, that's what every Spiritual Master has tried to do.
