Would you ever let a film critic dictate to you what movie you should see? What movie should you not see?

I've found that the majority of films that the critics bombed were actually pretty good movies. I don't listen to them at all anymore. If the subject matter looks interesting, I'll watch the movie and decide for myself ! Only one I've agreed with them on lately is Sharknado ! Lousy reviews and lousy movies. No, I don't care what some stuff shirt critic says about a movie but will listen to other people that have seen a movie as to whether it's good or not. Everyone has different tastes.

I didn't think you were one of the "weak-minded". Not by a longshot. In another comment, I said that some people needed to be told by others what is a good movie and what isn't.

I remember a story about a rather renowned (nationwide) teacher at my university who had seen a popular movie and had come out crying as a result of being so moved emotionally.

Through her tears she commented that it was a "terrible" movie.

She said that her response was genuine but it had been educed from her through illegitimate (film standards wise) manipulation by the director of the movie.

So I look at film critics the same way I look at nutritionists---good people with good credentials---but I'm still going to occassionally eat something that really tastes good even if it does not have any redeeming nutritional value.

Absolutely not. I've noticed nearly all critics are wrong. I've seen so many movies that were torn apart by critics that I really enjoyed.

Definitely not. Critics tend to be overly negative while tearing apart films intently looking for something to be wrong. I'd be more willing to listen to viewer reviews, though.

I don't normally go by what the critics say, because they're being paid for their review. If their company says, we need so many negative reviews from you in a certain time period, then they write what's been agreed upon.

We have a local movie critic who's actually honest about the movies he reviews. That's why I trust him when he writes a good or bad review.

I also listen to my friends to see what they have to say. More often than not, I do a search on the movie I want to see, read the summary of what the movie is about, see who's acting in it and then make my decision.
