Idk, but I loved the old MacGyver with Richard Dean Anderson and I just saw a trailer, I'll be watching 📺.

There is no way it'll be good; not without Richard Dean Anderson.

Hollywood is full of new thinking. Always and forever.that's why when you say "Hollywood" a heavy weight of reputation and fame is following up with it.

Every day thousand of quality movies and series are ready to lunch. Just more than fifteen series are upcoming out on late 2016, mid 2017.

Probably the movies aren't on your taste and that gives you such idea. But many people loving the shows.

About bringing back old TV shows or the ones recently finished and  rebooting to continue little years later. The huge percent of people around the world are craving for it. That's why the CEO's and writers consistently push the shows as they feel it has potential to keep going.

Right now, Prison Break and 24 my two top favorite shows are coming back. I'm over the moon myself. I need to mention 24, the main actor Kiefer Sutherland is not included (there's possibilities) but the whole previous cast has changed. Many criticizing the new idea. But still on a poll about "What shows people would be excited to see from FOX channel" 24:Legacy is leading with over 65 % between five-six shows. You see ? People love it. And movie staffs care about that. As simple as that.

I gotta agree with Matt that they come up with tons of new stuff all the time but I'll also agree with you that this show might prove disappointing. Even the original, as entertaining as it was, probably ran its course. A new generation who never saw Anderson's version will probably enjoy it.

But, slightly off the question, did you know that MacGyver has become an eponym? Three times now, in books by three different authors, I've read where a character has had to "macgyver" his way out of a situation. I actually wondered if it would mean much to younger readers.
