´The Louisville Lip´ has been known my many monikers during his lifetime, famously changing his name mid-career to the consternation of many. He is one of the most recognizable sportsmen alive and an iconic institution. Some of you may know him as ´The Butterfly´, whilst others will be familiar with Cassius Clay, whilst most of you will simply know him as Muhammad Ali.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1942, Muhammad Ali took to boxing aged 12 after a policeman found him lamenting the theft of his cycle. His style, though totally unorthodox, saw him win titles at every level he competed, including local and national golden gloves tournaments, the amateur athletic union title, an Olympic gold medal and, not forgetting, the world heavyweight championship no less than three times.

´The Louisville Lip´ derided from Ali´s innate showmanship. Articulate and eloquent, he would often regale sports journalist with his razor sharp wit and the moniker was given as an affectionate tribute to Ali´s verbal powers.

Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) because he talked too much, but always backed up his words! When he said he was going to win, he was going to do it!
