Sean McGee did not kill himself. In fact, he is still alive.
Sean McGee is a rap artist who comes from Sandusky, Ohio in the United States. He became a sensation through the websites MySpace and YouTube in 2007, at the age of 20. He posted a song, 'My Story', onto the websites and gained more than 16 million hits. At the time he was living in a friend's car and moving between friends' houses. He was a sad, lonely and confused teenager.
The song was written about the death of his grandmother and the divorce of his parents. The lyrics also touch on the period in his life when he was homeless. There have been hundreds of spoofs of the song posted since the original was placed onto the websites. After placing the song onto MySpace he was arrested for drug possession, tampering with evidence and was locked up in Erie County Jail.
He posted bond the following month and when released, he checked his MySpace page and found that the song had more than 10,000 hits. He then began to save money for studio time and posted further songs using other people's computers. McGee has since performed gigs in Cleveland and Florida and has undergone drug counselling.
There were a large number of rumours spread via the Internet that McGee had hung himself, but these proved to be unfounded. He is not the first person to have had rumours spread about him on the Internet. Others who have suffered these rumours include Eminem, who was reported to have died in a car crash and Jackie Chan, who was said to have suffered a heart attack. There were also false reports placed on the Internet that both Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake had died.
