I found one a few days ago and I have been feeding him a variety of things: Earthworms, grubs, potato, banana, bread, seeds and dog and cat food. But he loves the earthworms best!
Mushed up worms, can not be whole its mother eats it and regurgitate it so it can eat it
Seeds mixed with water and live meal worms, when older they eat snails and slugs.
I've got one at the moment, I found it sitting by itself when I was biking to the beach, at first I left it but on my way back about an hour later it was still there so I picked it up. The vet is shocked at how loving it is. Apparently I;ve got about a month left of raising to do. So far its been 7 days. I'm feeding it mashed up chook pallets with cat food and a touch of olive oil with warm water. I feed it this through an eye dropper. Its poop is looking quite healthy.
I hope you left it where it was as it's mum will probably find it - she is used to her young scattering themselves around the neighbourhood. If you did try to feed it yourself it will want earthworms and caterpillars, maggots etc fed to it frequently. If you cannot find enough in your garden try a fishing tackle shop, they usually have live bait for sale.
A baby thrush flew into our house in france and got trapped in my handbag .my husband lifted it out and placed it in a cardboard box.Seemed too exhausted to fly, last night rain so kept in house. Fed him alittle milk and powdered museli, tweeting today, put him outside today I think a few birds came to visit, could be mum? Very cold so brought him in again, frightened cat will get him. What to do for best? Leave him out in day, take him in, feed him or not? Help would be appreciated, only here on hols.
As long as your near it, it's parents won't come don't touch the flegling simply observe it from a distance if it's parents don't show up, take the bird into a wildlife rescue center they'll know what to do. Baby birds have an extremely high mortality rate if hand reared. They simply require an amount of care and devotion of which a person can't deal with. If you really wasn't to hand rear the bird, you must spend the entire day with it even after it reaches maturity. So you must take it to a wildlife rehabilitation center so it can have the best chances in survival.
