Despite having over 60 hit singles in the United Kingdom, Status Quo have only ever had one number one hit single, and that was 'Down Down', which was released in 1974.
After a string of different band names and singles that flopped, the band released their first ever single as Status Quo in 1968. 'Pictures of Matchstick Men' reached number 7 in the UK charts, and is the band's only hit single in America (it entered the top 40). Their second single 'Ice in The Sun', was just as successful as 'Pictures of Matchstick Men', and reached number 8 in the UK charts.
Status Quo were best known in the seventies, when they released the hit singles 'Paper Plane', 'Caroline', 'Down Down', 'Rockin' All Over The World', and 'Whatever You Want'.
In recent years, Quo have released a series of greatest compilations and cover albums. Their most recent album is 'The Party Ain't Over Yet', which was released in September 2005.
