William James "Bill" O'Reilly, Jr, married Maureen E. McPhilmy, a public relations executive, at St. Brigid Parish of Westbury on November 2, 1996. They have a daughter, Madeline, born in 1998, and a son, Spencer , born 2003, and currently Bill is still married.
Rumours have circulated about O’Reilly’s marriage because of events in 2004 when Andrea Mackris, a former producer of his television show, The O’Reilly Factor, sued O’Reilly for sexual harassment, seeking $60 million in damages.
Mackris brought the lawsuit in response to a lawsuit that O’Reilly had filed against her, alleging that she had threatened to bring legal action against him unless he paid her millions of dollars.
The subsequent cases filled the headlines for some months with salacious details. Mackris alleged that O’Reilly harassed sexually in two ways; that he demanded demanded she have sex with him as a Quid Pro Quo and that he made her work environment hostile by his advances. She quoted telephone conversations with him in which he "advised her to use a vibrator and told her about sexual fantasies involving her".
The Fox network, which broadcast The O’Reilly Factor, sought judicial permission to fire Mackris but she was never fired. Instead in October, 2004, O'Reilly and Mackris reached an out of court settlement and dropped all charges against each other.
A number of newspaper reports said that, as part of the settlement, O'Reilly probably paid Mackris millions of dollars, but the terms of the agreement are confidential.
Naturally, there was much speculation as to the effect this affair would have on O’Reilly’s marriage. When he appeared on television without wearing his wedding ring, the speculation was heightened still further and questions began to be asked about whether he had secretly become divorced as a result of the scandal.
However, O’Reilly remains married while the fate of his wedding ring is currently unknown.
