Henry Hudson had three sons named Richard, John and Oliver. John Hudson accompanied his father on all four of his voyages from 1607 onwards, and served as a ship's boy on board on all these voyages. In 1611, when the ship was abandoned in the Bay of Bengal in 1611, John was one of the crew members who were stranded.

At the request of Henry Hudson's wife Katherine, the East India Company entered their son Richard's name on the Samaritan, gave him £5 and sent him to work as a factor for the company. He travelled to Bantam, Java and Japan and then finally arrived in Bengal, India. According to historians, Richard was said to be three years old when his niece was christened in 1608. He became very successful and prosperous in India, amassing a large amount of wealth and becoming one of the first Englishmen to acquire a permit to live in imperial Japan. On his return to England in the late 1630's, he apparently got involved in a financial dispute with the directors of the company, and he defied their threats to imprison him, returning to his home in Balasore, India, where he eventually died in 1644. Many of his children migrated to the United States, where his descedants still live.

Oliver Hudson had a daughter named Alice in 1608 and his father Henry was present at his grand-daughter's christening. The journal of Henry Hudson's voyage in 1587, which is believed to have been written by Oliver and published in 1612, was presented as Hudson's own memoirs.
