"We're Not Afraid To Die" is a story written by authors Gordon Cook and Alan East and is about the courage and bravery that is shown in the face of trouble by a family of four on a sinking ship.
The family consisted of two parents and two children and they boarded their ship in order to embark on a voyage around the world. They were also accompanied by two crew members on board as they navigated their way through the Southern Indian Ocean.
As they are traveling, the weather takes a turn for the worst and the voyage begins to descend into chaos. The sea begins to get rough and the boat is being violently beaten by the high winds and the waves. The weather gets so bad that the author is flung overboard by a strong wave.
Once he is able to get back aboard the ship, another wave crashes into the ship, sending him flying across the deck and resulting in him injuring himself and he begins to bleed from his head.
However - the wave has also damaged the boat, causing a leakage to being. Injured yet calm, the author sets about trying to repair the ship. Meanwhile - one of the children has also been injured by the violent rocking of the ship but she does not mention it in an attempt to avoid creating a fuss.
The weather conditions continued to worsen and the boat had no hope of reaching any further than Amsterdam. This is where the author quotes "we are not afraid to die if we can all be together". This displays the highest degree of family unity and love as it suggests that even in the face of possible death, they are just happy to all be together.
