Musical Ear Syndrome or MES as it is often called is a condition where a person hears phantom sounds--typically music, singing or what sounds like a radio or TV playing in another room. This is NOT a psychiatric condition--meaning the person is not mentally ill, but is indicative of things now working quite right in the auditory system.
MES is a syndrome--that is, a collection of symptoms. Typically people with MES are elderly, have a hearing loss, have tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and often are either anxious, depressed or stressed.
