The rock band Alice in Chains one of the more popular ones from the grunge scene in the early 90s. The band was formed in Seattle in 1987 and comprised of Layne Staley (vocals and lyrics), Jerry Cantrell (guitar, lyrics and vocals), Mike Starr (bass) and Sean Kinney (drums); Starr was later replaced by Mike Inez in 1992.

The band achieved their greatest success in the early and mid 90s with their albums Facelift (1990), Dirt (1992), Jar of Flies (1994), Alice in Chains (1995) and Unplugged (1995) going platinum. Layne Staley who was battling a drug addiction tragically died of an overdose in 2002 following which the group disbanded for a brief period.

The surviving band members of Alice in Chains came together in 2005 to perform a benefit concert for the victims of the Tsunami Disaster that occurred in South Asia in December 2004; the lead vocalist was Pat Lachman of Damgeplan fame. The group also performed at the VH1's Decades Rock Live concert followed by a brief US club tour with William DuVall as the lead singer. However the group haven't confirmed whether they would be performing in the future under the name Alice in Chains or under a different name.
