Most shocking celebrity deaths you say? How about these as prime contenders for famous people that kicked the bucket and left the world speechless:

Chris Benoit: May 21, 1967 - June 24, 2007 The Canadian pro-wrestler makes this list not because he was that much of an A-lister, but more because of the shocking circumstances surrounding his death.

Whilst most famous people choose to end it all by taking sleeping pills and napping in the bath tub, Chris Benoit decided to kill his wife, drug and strangle his son - and then three days later hang himself.

Pretty gruesome. And shocking...

Steve Jobs: February 24, 1955 - October 5, 2011
Although perhaps not a celeb in the truest sense of the word, I think the most shocking think about Steve Job's death is that he was still relatively young and also very rich. Surely if anyone could conjure up a cure for cancer from some top secret military lab in Brazil, it would have been Steve Jobs.

Michael Jackson: August 29, 1958 - June 25, 2009
The reason I felt Michael Jackson's death was "shocking" is mainly because he seemed to be on the mend. We all knew about Jackson's public problems with the law, his health and his finances.

His death seemed untimely because it was right at the beginning of his big comeback - his chance to set things straight and end his career on a high.

Elvis Presley: January 8, 1935 - August 16, 1977 Although Elvis wasn't the first "celebrity death", and certainly not the last - his passing was the first to have such a major impact on the whole world, simply because the world had never known an icon like him before (ok, except Marilyn Monroe maybe...)

To add to the shock factor, he was only 42 years of age - and although the theory of drug intoxication is widely accepted as a cause of his death, the coroner's report never mentioned anything about drugs! Spooky...

There were several and they were a real loss to the entertainment community.  I would think since you used the word shocking that Michael Jackson would be at the top of the list.  Others were somewhat expected due to illness or longevity.

Michael Jackson because it was such a shock and I was upset and it was also a shock to discover that he seemed to be addicted or reliant on precription drugs.  And Whitney Houston too.  Some of these celebrites/artists are protrayed as great people who dont have addictions and then you find tha they did and they died from complications with their addictions or healthy-related conditions associated with their addictions which they managed to keep out of the public eye until their deaths.  I am getting bored of a celebrity death that involved substance abuse its boring.  I wish these celebrities, actors, musicians would stop and realise they are worth more as people to not die or OD.  Do something different - go to rehab or better still avoid the substances and live for a long time.  Such lose to music.  But still shocking.  Most of the time I groan when a rock star dies of it - its so predictable and a waste of their life doing that - do something different.  Why, oh why oh why?
