In fact, one review called it "Beats Pill: A tiny speaker with big problems"

Beats Pill: A tiny speaker with big problems (review)

Does anyone hear a crackling sound when using the Beats pill?

As far as audio-fidelity goes, this device wasn't really aimed at making shockwaves in the market. It's pretty small for the amount of sound it is capable of, but there had to be a draw back somewhere... And the crackling is just one example.
The design is pretty cool, I'll give it that, and they've advertised and marketed the bejesus out of it, but at the end of the day this Beats Pill is not for audio-enthusiasts, it's marketed at people shopping for trendy Christmas presents.
You can try taking it back to the store if you're really not happy with it, but before you do I would recommend taking a look at the beatsbydre.com trouble shooting page to see if you can fix that crackling sound.

Bought 3 of these from different stores, very disappointed to find out that all of them had the same exact problem with crackling sounds through Bluetooth connection and direct connect via wire cord. Call up manufacture they said to send them in so I did. 2 weeks later they contacted me back and said sorry but we cannot warranty them because they all have moisture damage inside them. I disagreed with that because I just bought them not even a day earlier before I sent them in. So they sent them back to me and got them a week later. So being a tech guy myself I desided to open them all and I discovered them to have what looks to be water residue on the boards, curious I thought to take my heat gun to the boards to reheat the solder and burned off the watermarks on them only for just 2 seconds. After I let them cool and put them back together powered them all on and viola! No more crackling sounds! They all worked perfectly, even after a week they still charge and sound great for such a small portable speaker. I don't know why they couldn't just clean them boards up while they had them opened, kinda just puzzles me. I called them back up and asked them that question, all I got is *I cant answer that for you* and they just hung up the phone on me. Well I wont be calling them back or buy anymore beats audio stuff when most there stuff is over priced and most likely liquid damaged inside, don't know why they would be, but I solved my problems with these 3 pills with crackling sounds, hope this works for most you all out there with this problem that I had.
