I agree, but I'm one of those who takes little interest in the lives of celebrities.  Unfortunately, it's not always up to those people.  Their fame makes them public figures, and the insatiable need for many people to live vicariously through the lives of others often makes famous people targets.  It's true that some thrive on publicity, but those who don't should be left alone.

Caroline Kennedy has chosen to keep her personal life private, and she was criticized for that when she wanted Hillary Clinton's vacated senate seat.  And then there are those like Mel Gibson who's public displays have been despicable.
