YouTube was created by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim.  All three of YouTube's founders were previously employed by PayPal, but they created YouTube in 2005.

History of YouTube

  • Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim started YouTube in a headquarters located above pizzeria in California.
  • YouTube.com was registered as a domain in February 2005, and was then developed by its three founders.
  • Sequoia Capital invested an initial $3.5 million into YouTube in November 2005, and a further $8 million at a later date.
  • Google purchased YouTube in October 2006 for a staggering $1.65 billion. 
  • Following the sale of YouTube, Chad Hurley gained $395 million, Steve Chen gained $326 million, and Jawed Karim gained $64 million.
  • By March 2013, over 1 billion people visited YouTube.com each month.
  • YouTube continues to be one of the most popular websites on the internet, and more and more people are taking to the website in an attempt to make money from their videos.
