Why would anyone read or watch the movie: 50 Shades of Gray ? I don't know anyone including myself that ever got halfway through the book.

I've read (online) a summary of the book. As a result, I refused to by the book (or even borrow it) or see the movie on principle. I don't understand how any woman could possibly abide this drivel.

The first 50 pages of the book was as far as I made it and no one seems to have ever finished. Can't understand how it got on the best sellers list.

The closest I got to that book/movie was a youtube video where a guy flipped to random pages and read a short selection in the voices of famous people and characters such as Kermit the Frog, Nicholas Cage, and Master Yoda. The video was hilarious but I have no desire to read the book or see the movie. I don't understand the fascination with it either. Best of luck to you!

I just saw the movie yesterday because my friends said it wasn't that bad...never listening to them again! It was so vile and wrong...uh it's gonna give me nightnmares

Erotica, which isn't quite as mainstream is still a pretty popular book genre. It's not like 50 Shades of Grey is the first of it's kind or anything. Just a lot of viral hype surrounding it that made it so popular. So if you're not into reading Erotica, you're probably not reading 50 Shades. And it's most likely not your "gateway" erotica book either.

No idea, I only got part of the way through it and that was a struggle. Considering the theme, maybe reading the book is meant to be painful? It left me crying out for a decent read.

It seems to be very popular with some women, maybe they are curious about certain kinds of fantasy scenarios involving being tied down but are too nervous to talk to their real life partners about it?

I read the synopsis and it looked predictable.  I think that's one of those books people said they read because it sounds hip to have read it.  But they really haven't read it.
