What do you think about the newer Star Trek movies with the young Kirk and Spock as compared to the older movies?
They do a fair job. Unfortunately I watched the original series and the original movies, and the Kirk and Spock characters are ingrained and nobody can replace them.
As a life long, heavy duty Star Trek fan, I find the new movies interesting and like the way they have shown how the nuances develop of the characters in the old movies.
Way better special effects.
They did it fairly well actually... I'd give it a 8/10 to start off with. 20% of it still needs work.
I'm sorry to completely say this to you but I'm not interested in Star Trek. My sons Jeremy "Jem" for short and Jeffrey LOVE Star Trek. They could watch it all day for the rest of their lives.
For all the hype ... J J Abrams is a lazy director. He relied too much on camera glare, and rehashing prior movie scripts. I heard that he really didn't want to do the movies - but was biding his time for Star Wars. I don't know if it's true - but it might explain his laziness.
As to the actors ... I think they did a good job, given the limitations of the movies.
