I remember them. We had about 3 soda fountains in my little town when I was growing up. One was in the pharmacy, one was in the 5&10 cent store and one was in a place called the Nut Shop. You could go in there and get a nickel Coke, which was a smaller glass but was only 5 cents. You could also get cherry juice, pineapple juice or vanilla added to your Coke for no cost. We would all get a nickle Coke and then spin on the stools to see who would get sick first.

I only remember them in the Five and Dime stores. The pharmacy near where I lived didn't have one but the Five and Dime was in the same complex. So.........

We had two five and dimes that were across the street from one another. McCrory's and Woolworths. Even in the 70s it was like walking back in time when you walked in. They had old marred wooden floors that creaked when you walked. And they both had luch counters that were very popular.

There was one in the Eckerd drugstore when I was 3-4. My grandfather would take us for an ice cream after church on Sunday.

Oh, yeah. They weren't in pharmacies in Oz but in stores we used to call "Milk Bars". They mostly sold all manner of confectionery and drinks and later added hamburgers to their lot. Eventually they morphed into the fast food outlets we have today.
