Before I answer ---- I have to preface this with the fact that children learn, grow, and enjoy life more with limited TV/movie/tablet/computer screen time.
If you can think of ANY face to face interactions, do those first! Go to the park, bounce a balloon around the house, play games, read aloud, explore nature, sing songs, color, blow bubbles, hit the kitchen, anything!
But when it's time to relax after your busy day, there are plenty of family friendly choices.

Preschool: Sesame Street "Old School" DVDs are better than the new ones. Jim Henson knew how to do it! PBS has kids shows all day. Madeline is a great way to combine the classic book with film. Arietty is a nice rendition of the book The Borrowers.
Disney and Pixar overlap into elementary school. At the elementary school age, you can look for some excellent oldies like The Iron Giant, The Goonies, Shrek, or Neverending Story.
Whatever you choose, be sure to watch with the child. The TV is no substitute for a loving caregiver.
