Your Q can be really rather an eternal one...for instance Auguste Rodin, the sculptor, was fascinated by the inevitable decline of human beings, writing that 'what we call ugliness in nature, can in art become full of great beauty.'

And so to illustrate his point, in 1885 Rodin created his wonderful La Belle Heaulmière, loosely translated as "She who was once the helmet-maker's beautiful wife."
