Somebody has to do the job so they have to be paid. Unfortunately the type of people attracted to politics are not always the sort of people you would really want to employ if you had any choice.
President-elect Trump has stated he will not take a salary while he is in office. Why would he? But as a billionaire president he would be in a position to manipulate the laws relating to his businesses and, there is little doubt, he will benefit enormously from his time in the White House. Unless, of course, he gets caught with his snout too far into the trough and is impeached.
