Television has had a tremendous impact on society ever since it was invented and has affected cultures throughout the world. It has been one of the biggest agents of socialisation. It has been seen as representing and misrepresenting information and has been highly criticised for the latter. Many believe that television has opened up new avenues, thought patterns and processes and opinions to the masses.
A large part of how we see and live life today is determined and affected by television in terms of traditions, values and norms. Many also argue that television has done more harm than good in terms of its portrayal of violence, its glamorising of all the wrong things and messages, the portrayal of sexual attitudes and vulgarity among other things. It has been see as affecting the viewer's self image negatively and largely causing a significant amount of chaos as far as cultures and their respective values are concerned.

Some of the things being said above are true but come on lets get real! Parents if they accutualy pay attention to some of the traits their children are starting to get, possibly from television don't you think that they would set their kids atrait, and make sure they relize that what they see isn't always true! Obesise children don't get fat from just tv, when they are hugry they have a choice between fatning foods and something a little bit healthier. I'm not saying that tv dosnt affect us, it does but our society can't keeping blaming our problems on something else, which in this case many response above blame tv for. Also when a person is about to shoot or kill someone, they know its not right, and when they go to court for murder some lawyers will push it off on tv and say that gave their client the idea to shoot someone. That's stupid, when it comes down to it everyone makes their choice, though tv might influence it a little.

I think tv changed our society by the action that takes place. Children watching bad influences on tv gives them a better chance of doing bad actions towards people. To me tv is like a hypnotizer.your brain gathers in all the info and it takes its place in your actions.tv to kids is like an encourager.like your mom would tell you to do something and you do it.sometimes children say or do what they see on tv.tv also makes people fat.instead of playing outside they sit watch tv with junk food.tv could also hurt your child`s education.

A lot depends on how you look at it kids especially because they make it their life they spend more time watching t.v. Then anything else hate to say it but thats why there are so many obese children and adults now a days. They don't like to be outdoors doing sports or activities they would rather sit down with a bowl of popcorn and a big glass of pop then be outside getting fresh air.And it has a lot to do with what we are watching not a lot of people are interested in watching educational programs they like watching violence and shows that have no meaning.I can say that because I have 2 children 11 and 6 and the older one I have to pretty much drag her away from the t.v. While me and my younger daughter love to be outside I put time limits on the t.v. Time, game time and computer time.So it affects us in negative ways sometimes.stressed21

Well, I know they went from the huge things (consoles) on the living room floor to the ones on the wall.

They have gone from black and white to color

I think a lot of crime is due to violence on TV. Many people get ideas from tv and don't realize that it isn't real life

The television changed the world in many ways. As soon as television came out, children started to do that more than anything. They stopped playing outside. They became spoiled. They became over-weight children. The television also had some good effects on the world. People got to learn more about their surroundings and what happened around their home. People learned about the world more, saw more photos, discovered more things brand new to them. People discovered things like new music, new art, and unfortunately, new news about new wars.

Television has been a best source of entertainment so far, I wouldnt lay all the blame on tv for all the gunshots and all sorts of violence in our society, come on lets be reall there are a lot of good shows on tv and many bad ones but the choice is with you holding the remote whether to ngo for the good stuff or the bad. I think its just the same as the choices we make everyday, whether to do good or do bad

I think that television has changed society by making us lazy and an obesise nation like my favorite president George W. Bush has said "I wish there was a knob on the television that turned up the educational level.  There's a knob that says brightness but that doesn't work."
