Born on 26th November 1939, in Haywood Memorial Hospital, Brownsville, TN, Anna Mae Bullock, AKA, Tina Turner started life by being abandoned by her parents at a young age. She married a domineering alcoholic and attempted suicide in a bid to escape her husband's abuse to her.
After a while on welfare, Anna managed to bluff her way into Ike Turner's band, the King's Rhythm, in a St. Louis Club. Soon after, they married and success was found in the form of River Deep, Mountain High. Tina went on to become a huge success in her own right. She won four Grammy Awards for Miss in 1984, including record of the year for "What's Love Got to Do with It" and best female rock performance for "Better Be Good to Me." The success of the album Private Dancer sold 11 million copies worldwide and was the culmination of a slow recovery that began with separation from Ike in 1975. Ike and Tina finally divorced in 1978. Since then and at the age of 67, Tina is still considered to be a world icon in the music industry.
