In Mexico, wrestlers have always wore masks. Its part of their heritage.  Masks have been worn since the early part of the 20th century in the beginning of Lucha libre...Losing his mask in a match can be the ultimate insult to the wrestler. Sometimes causing him to leave wrestling forever...But not for Rey Rey, he has lost his mask before during a match...

Because he wants to keep his identity a secret?

Or because he wants to protect his face?

Rey Mysterio is a famous American professional wrestler. He is famous for his high flying style. His mask has become his identity. There is no specific reason behind his wearing a mask. He just wanted to have a separate and unique identity just like other wrestler who use different kind of ornamentation during play.

Cause he is from lucha libre

Because its represents him  and his family

He is half Mexican

Because his grandfather was the original rey mysterio and he wore a mask rey is rey mysterio jr

The reason for it is because he started wrestling in mexico and in mexico lucha libre is a big sport and almost every wrestler wears some kind of mask...in rey mysterios case he wears it for the honor of the sport.
