Melodrama without music is not really melodrama. You must incorporate the feelings that music provides. Melodrama relies on music to represent characters and the feelings within a scene. In silent movies, the impact and essential nature of music adds the emotion which dialogue usually adds, try to watch a silent movie without the music and you will notice how dry the film is. The very definition of Melodrama has music within it and is therefore integral to the piece. All characters, villains and heroes alike, should have their own music, this is so the audience is immediately aware of the character and his/her intentions and feelings.
