Stupid Girl was a big hit for the band Garbage and featured on their 1996 debut album. It was written before Shirley Manson joined the group but recorded by her at Smart Studios in 1994 shortly after she joined the band. The song featured materials taken from a Clash song 'Train in Vain' and so was credited to Mick Jones and Joe Strummer as well as to Garbage. There were rumours that the song contained other borrowed features but these have not been proved. In live performance Shirley Manson has changed the vocals to include snatches from other people's material. There are several songs of similar names including Pink's 'Stupid Girls' and Cold's 'Stupid Girl'. The most well-known version of the song to date was performed by cartoon characters The Smurfs and titled 'Stupid Smurf'. It also featured in the opening credits of the 2005 comedy film 'In her Shoes'.
