The locking system in the Floyd Ross Locking Tremolo is used to keep the strings in tune while the strings are loosened to a degree. To restring a Floyd Ross Locking Tremolo, it is important to know that you can change strings with the same string gauge. To begin with, you have to unscrew the Fine Tuners that are on the bridge at a distance of halfway, so that you have space to tune if needed. Then you should unlock the pieces that are near the locking nut. With the help of pliers, pull the sting at around 12 fret, and cut it out. Unscrew the part that holds the string into place at the bridge.
Take the other half of the string that is around the tuning peg and remove it too. Insert the "new" string into the place at the bridge and tighten it with a key, preferably an Allen Key. Put the string through the tuning peg and wind it up. Now, your job is to tune that string in such a way that it suits a particular pitch. Make sure that you do not lock the nut. Repeat the process for each string and make sure that you have tuned the string to a certain pitch.
