The animated movie "Bambi" was first released in 1942, by Walt Disney, and is based on the 1923 book "Bambi, A Life in the Woods" by the Austrian author Felix Salten.

"Bambi" tells the tale of the young deer of the same name, how he grows up, makes friends, and how he finally has to struggle with the loss of his mother after she is killed by hunters.

Bambi is the young Prince of the Forest, and his father is the Great Prince of the Forest, and Bambi ultimately has to lead the other deer to safety when hunters arrive.

Significantly, Bambi's mother has no name or obvious role, other than her part as Bambi's mother, something which has led to criticism of the film in more recent times.

Bambi's amusing friends include Thumper, a rabbit, and Flower, a skunk.

Despite its somewhat datedness, "Bambi" still remains a favourite with young children.
