Fairytale of New York was sang by The Pogues and featured the singer Kirsty MacColl. The song was a very popular Christmas song, released in 1987. It reached number two in the British charts and number one in the Irish charts and for three years running (2004, 2005,2006) it has been voted the best Christmas song of all time on VH1 in the UK. VH1 also voted it as the 27th greatest song that didn't reach number one in the UK.
In 1991 the song re-released by The Pogues in the United Kingdom. In 2005, it was released again and reached number three in the UK charts. The 2005 release was produced as a tribute to Kirsty MacColl, who died in a scuba-diving accident in 2000. The money made from the release was donated to a campaign called 'Justice for Kirsty' which was formed in order to investigate her death, and a number of homeless charities.
It was released again in 2006, and made the UK top ten.
