I actually really like watching sad movies because they make me appreciate the world a little bit more.
In terms of getting emotional, I think nothing is more heartbreaking than watching a movie that involves a child suffering or dying, that always get's to me!
I know it's a bit soppy maybe... But My Sister's Keeper is one movie that I found hard to watch. It's about a young girl who was conceived to donate organs to help her older sister who is suffering from cancer.
Lorenzo's Oil is another movie that got to me for a similar reason.
We actually watched it at school (it's a very old movie) when we were learning about genetic mutations and hereditary diseases. The young boy in the film, Lorenzo, suffers from a degenerative disease called ALD to which there is no known cure.
Watching him get progressively worse and the effect it has on his family was heartbreaking, and quite a few girls in my class cried.
It was pretty powerful watching because the movie is based on a true story.
I don't think touching movies always have to involve kids with terminal illnesses though!
I really enjoyed watching Lust Caution when that came out. It's about a woman helping Chinese rebels during the Japanese occupation of the country pre WWII. Very moving storyline, visually stunning, incredible acting (and a pretty famous 18+ scene)!
I don't know if I get too emotional over movies, but the endings of Titanic and also Marley and Me made me get a lump in my throat too!
Then there's also the whole list of movies that make you feel like you've got awoken from a dream as a different person after watching them.
Requiem for a Dream had that kind of impact on me. It's probably one of the most depressing film endings I've ever seen. It follows the lives of 4 people, and how their lives, hopes and dreams are completely destroyed by drugs.
