What a question!  I have so many emotional attachments to lots of different songs it has been really hard to choose just one.

After a trip down memory lane, and a bit of a disco with my youngest boy I have managed to produce a list of 7 songs which mean the world to me. So this is my count down:

7. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper. This song, or any floor filler, always makes me think of my Mum she is always the first one on the dance floor.  This song in particular always gets her up there dragging along anyone in her path!

6. The Music Man - I am unsure of who actually wrote this song. When I was growing up we had family parties as my family is quite large.  My Dad's 'party peice' was always to sing this song with lots of variations of instruments: we would play the tables, walls along with the traditional piano.  Sometimes you couldn't even follow the song as there was so much laughter, it always brings a smile to my face thinking of the song and all the happy memories.

5. Good Bye My Lover - James Blunt. As morbid as this is going to sound, the reason this song is on my list as my husband has requested this song to be played at his funeral.  It always brings a tear to my eye.

4. Slide Away - Oasis. This song was playing in the pub when I walked on and met my husband on our first date, and it has stuck as one of these songs that will always reminds me of him.

3. Nothin' On You - B.o.B feat. Bruno Mars.  This song was number ones when my youngest was born & subsequently has become one of his favourite songs.

2. Hey There Delilah - Plain White T's. This song wasn't number one but it was my favourite song when my eldest boy was born.

And my number one spot goes to -

1. We Built This City - Starship. This song is most definitely our 'family song'.  We often have impromptu parties at home, just the four of us which mainly consist of disco lights, party songs and party food.  We all love it and have a great time, the best party my boys put on for me was my ' Surprise Mothers Day Halloween' party which is where our family song was discovered.  All of us know the lyrics and automatically start dancing when we hear it.  It just makes me smile so much.

I suppose this song just make me remember what a fantastic family I have and when hear it happy memories flood over me.

I have so many! Very tough question and I think you know whats going to be top on my list! But I have very good reasons for them too! Lets start then!

  1. Westlife- Flying without wings.  This song was the band's fastest and biggest selling single to this date! It was such an emotional song, at first I just loved it because it sounded good but now after I matured a bit and things happened in my life, it made me realise the true meaning of the song. Its about family and friendship and how "Who can deny the great joy they bring"?
  2. Westlife - You Raise Me Up. Now a lot of artists have covered this song and in different languages , but Westlife were the 3rd artists to cover this song and they were requested to do so by the main main himself 'Brian Kennedy' and Josh Groban didn't do it much justice as Westlife did. Westlife's version is the most popular one with the most copies sold Worldwide (Look that up if you want!) . The song is so emotional , Westlife really sing it beautifully and it makes me cry everytime.

  3. Westlife-Swear it again. This song would make me bawl like 10000000 times and then some! This song was Westlife's first ever song but thats not why it makes me cry. When I went to see Westlife live at the Cinemas for the last time every (Last year) , they started doing a countdown to the show and therefore they started to play all their hits back to back while we waited, and as soon as this came on... I cried like no tomorrow. It just gave me the realisation that from that day Westlife would no longer be a band. You will never understand how I feel, I felt and still feel so heartbroken, and that song was their first song it brought back so many memories. I think I'm going to get emotional now.
  4. Westlife-I'll see you again. About death, now thats a touchy subject.

So basically all of Westlife's live performances will make me cry because you can really feel the emotion in their vocals and because they relate to difficult situations I've been in.

I agreee with everyone here that this is indeed a tough question because I've been jumping from one "attachment" to another depending on the moments and experiences in my life.  I do have a special list of songs that everytime I listen to them  I can't help but feel that I can fly... Literally!

My first and most beloved is "Where is my Mind?" by Pixies.  Just listening to the introduction and I'm already feeling like jumping around!

The second one on my list is "Such Great Heights" by The Postal Service. I can listen to it again and again and again and I can't seem to get tired of it!

My third mood-lifter of all times is "When I Grow Up" by Garbage.

Now this one is special because I constantly feel like I need to grow up!  And be a rebel without a cause!  Can you do that actually?  Be an irresponsable mature grown-up?  I guess this song just wakes up my alter-ego.

And my latest "attachment", or at least it's growing into becoming my latest attachment, is "Starlight" by Muse.  I like many songs by Muse by this one is just... Well... I don't know.  I just love it!
