"Hurt" is a 1954 song written by Jimmie Crane and Al Jacobs, which was originally performed by Roy Hamilton.

Born in Georgia, United States, Roy had operatic and classical voice training and was also a heavy weight boxer.

Roy died at the age of 40 following a stroke, however his single "You'll never walk alone" was brought over from the US by a sailor friend of Gerry Marsden and, as you know, Gerry and the Pacemakers had great success when they went on to record the single.

  • Roy's version of "Hurt" reached number 8 in the R&B best seller chart and spent 7 weeks in the chart.
  • "Hurt" is considered to be the signature song of Timi Yuro (real name Rosemary Timothy Yuro) with her version reaching number 4 in the Billboard chart in 1961
