Who Is India's First Oscar Awarded Film Director?

So far no Indian Movie has bagged an Oscar Award. Except perhaps the dress designer from Gandhi in 1982. He won an Oscar for best costumes. However, three Indian movies have made it to the Oscars as nominees in the category of best foreign films namely :-
1) Mother India.
2) Salaam Bombay.
3) Lagaan.
However, Slumdog Millionaire has a bright chance to win an Oscar this year around, let's wait and see.
