I hate what MTV has morphed into. I use to watch it all the time, now I couldn't even tell you channel it's on.

They completely forgot what the purpose of their once-nice channel is. You don't start a music channel and simply change its content entirely, just because you aim for higher ratings. That's plain dull.

If you want to watch music videos, you watch the music channel, if you want to watch reality show dramas you do that somewhere else.

They have simply failed to define their target audience.

Simply because the internet. Why wait for your favorite video when you can just get it instantly? People with newer cars don't even listen to the radio unless it's for sports or thing like NPR news. For music they have pandora, spotify, and their own mp3s. Can't blame MTV for trying to survive. Society changed, therefore everything around it changed including MTV. Last I check Pimp My Ride was a reality TV show, and a pretty awesome one while at it. America's Best Dance Crew, Wonder Showzen, Battle for OZZFEST...etc.

It does kinda feel like they could have done more with the brand though, adapting to the "digital age" etc... MTV was pretty big for me when I was growing up. It would be kinda cool to see them relate to the "Instagram/Tumblr/Snapchat/Reddit generation" the way they did with the equivalent demographic in the past... same goes for MySpace!

I think if I had a dream job, it would be to be a product designer for a brand like that and shake them up... make the most of their heritage while brining them up to date again!!
