Dances should usually have plenty of up beat music and a few soft songs for those slow dances. If the dance has a theme try to incorporate songs into the theme. Make sure to pick a good opening song that gets the mood going and stick to songs that most people will recognize.

Hi! Thanks for the advice! The dance I am doing is based on a battle and the idea of power. We need some varied tempos with a moderate speed. Preferably something without lyrics. Is there anything you can think of or any websites where I might find something?

play.spotify.com would be a good starting place as they have lists by "moods" including dance, electronic, dub and so on.. All free to listen and you can create a playlist on the spot.

My favorite music to dance to is ska music !! I'm not sure it would be a hit at a high school dance , but it would be something new to your generation and it's so awesome ... And danceable, BAM !
