For video games that I either get too frustrated at to play again or I finish, I just put them on the shelf until somebody wants to play them, like my little cousin. For movies, I put them on the shelf too and just keep rewatching them. I don't really read much, so I don't have to worry about finishing books and doing something with them.
I usually keep non-fiction books permanently. I trade used fiction at the used bookstore. Video games are kept permanently if I still have the console to play them again, even if I never do. Video games I don't still have a console to play get donated to Goodwill.
If I just don't want them anymore they go away. Books I try to get rid of thru paperbackswap site, and the rest (and some of the books) go to the local charity thrift store.
I don't buy movies. We just rent. I recently traded a game console and games for work done around my house. Books I either give to a friend or family member or donate them to a charity.
