Well, Peyton Manning just retired (made a speech on national TV). What do you think about that?

It was expected. So, I'm not surprised. I'm glad he's going out on top. He's had a successful career, and now he can retire. It's all good.

His retirement came at the perfect time. He's going out on top. He had a stellar career and it's nice to see him go out while he's still young and relatively healthy. I tried to watch his speech but it got too mushy for me after about 20 minutes. I understand the emotion of this time for him but I'd rather not remember him crying at the podium.

I wasn't able to watch very much of it either . It was a long speech that's for sure . I remember a long long time ago, I was still in school, seeing Joe Namath crying so hard and that's what I remember about him- of course I know he was a fantastic player but I remember that retirement speech he made as my final big memory of him . Thank you for answering :)

Yep. It's basically the same reason that I don't go to viewings when people die.

There could be no better time, leave on top. Manning's skills are greatly diminished, and he was mighty fortunate to play alongside that championship defense. Like Ray Lewis, Peyton knew he may not come that far again, and the chance to go out with a ring is the dream ending of a superb career. Also like Lewis, Manning is a first ballot lock for the Hall.

Yes I agree. . I remember everyone saying this would probably be his last game during the super bowl and people seemed glad he was able to win before retiring . He seemed bound and determined to make sure they won.
