There are any number of choices, depending just what you're looking for.
I use The Guardian and The Huffington Post, and use the New York Times and Washington Post as back-ups.
I keep away from Murdoch sites. There's much owner interference and little objectivity.
For magazines it's hard to go past The New Yorker, though you'll have to pay for anything more than a few visits a month.
