I don't consider TMZ news. To me it is the same thing as the National Inquirer. As for CNN, MSNBC, Fox, or any other news source, I think for the most part they are honest, but skewed. The will present the facts that best show their biases. That is why it is important to get your news from more than one source.
No one can fully trust news organisations- they're too one-sided.
TMZ is a tabloid. As for the rest, you have to understand what you're trusting. Mainstream media like FOX, MSNBC. And CNN have pundits that put their spin on things. Places like Breitbart, American Thinker, Daily Caller, and etc tells you HOW to think and makes you feel special for doing so by telling you exactly what you wanted to hear. I personally know writers for those establishments and they hardly believe half the things they write. Much like how I don't think Bill O'riely or Alexander Jones believes half the things they say.
As for news, disregard the headlines. Read the police report included in the article, Read the exact legislation and bills being signed. Read the entire quoted passage and view it in the point of view at the moment in time. Places like Brietfart would quote someone saying "I don't like how gay people are treated" into something like "I don't like how gay people are..." and try to make a point out of it that's completely opposite.
You have to understand that your average person "trusts" news when it tells them what they wanted to hear, often times just going off by the headline. You get this from people like those who believe global warming is a hoax because they "read an article" that said so.
