Oprah Gail Winfrey born on January 29th, 1954, is a well known American multiple-Emmy Award winning host of The Oprah Winfrey Show, the premier ranking talk show in television history.

She is also a prominent book critic, and has been positioned as the wealthiest African American of the 20th century. Quiet a few people consider her to be the most influential woman in the world. Oprah was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, to an unmarried teenage couple. At the young age of three she was taught to read by her grandmother, and was taken to a local church, where she was given the nickname "The Preacher" because of her capability to recite Bible verses.

Winfrey shot to fame after shifting to Chicago where she started to host WLS-TV's talk show, AM Chicago, inside months after Winfrey took over, the show shot up from the last place to the first place in talk show ratings.

Oprah started her career as an anchor woman at a television news station.  She was given the opportunity to be the host of a local daytime show.  Her very public struggles with weight loss, and being a single woman in today's world endured her to many women.  People could identify with her and she was very down-to-earth and seemed very easy to talk to.  So many celebrities appear to be so distant and out of touch with everyday life.  Oprah lives the everyday life, (even though she is probably the richest woman in the U.S.)

She even went on to host the Dialing for Dollars’ local adaptation.
