The three main characters in the Harry Potter films were played by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
Daniel Radcliffe starred as Harry Potter. Although Radcliffe had had previous acting roles in BBC One's David Copperfield in 1999 and the 2001 movie The Tailor of Panama, it was the Harry Potter franchise that really launched his career. His latest role has been that of the protagonist Arthur Kipps in the 2012 movie The Woman in Black, and he's due to play Allen Ginsberg in the film Kill Your Darlings (2013).
Emma Watson played Hermione Granger. She had no professional acting experience before she was cast in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Her most recent role has been Sam in the 2012 adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Rupert Grint played Harry's best friend, Ron Weasley. Grint had never acted professionally before the first Harry Potter movie. Since the last Harry Potter film (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2), Rupert Grint has taken the role of Gunner Robert Smith in the anti-war film Into the White (2012).
