Northern Ireland is the area of the island of Ireland that is still a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Many famous and successful people come from Northern Ireland. There are a number of famous footballers such as Norman Whiteside and the now deceased soccer legend George Best (the City Airport of Belfast is now named after him). There are a number of famous bands from Northern Ireland. Snow Patrol met in Dundee but are from Ulster, and the famous Nolan sisters of the eighties.

Actor Liam Neeson is from Northern Ireland, alongside poet and critic Tom Paulin, theatre director Cathie Boyd, Jimmy Nesbit (actor), Stephen Rea (actor/director).

Famous politicians include Gerry Adams and the Reverend Ian Paisley.

Present Eamon Holmes, boxer Barry McGuigan, presenter Gloria Hunnyford (and her late daughter Karen Keating).
