Paul McCartney's estimated bank balance of £725 million puts him top on the Mail on Sunday's Rich Report 2004 for musicians.
McCartney's Wealth Compared to That of Other Musicians
Sir Paul McCartney's wealth is bigger than the combined fortunes of Sir Elton John, Sir Mick Jagger and Madonna.
About Paul McCartney
McCartney was a singer, songwriter and guitarist for The Beatles, the biggest rock band of the 1960s.
In 1957 Paul McCartney was invited to join John Lennon's band The Quarrymen. Eventually, George Harrison and Ringo Starr joined and the new band became The Beatles.
Almost all of their songs were written by McCartney and Lennon, who produced classics from "A Hard Day's Night" and "Yesterday" to "Let It Be" and "Hey Jude."
Solo Work and Post-Beatles Career
McCartney released his first solo album in 1970, just before the break-up of The Beatles.
McCartney soon formed the band Wings (featuring his wife, Linda), touring extensively and recording albums including Band on the Run and Venus & Mars.
Throughout the 1980s and '90s, McCartney continued to record and perform, and was awarded the MBE in 1997, making him Sir Paul McCartney.
Charity Work and Personal Life
After Linda McCartney died of breast cancer in 1998, he became more publicly active in charitable causes. McCartney married model and activist Heather Mills on 11 June 2002 at Castle Leslie at Glaslough in County Monaghan, Ireland.
Their daughter Beatrice Milly was born in October 2003, but in May of 2006 the couple announced that they would separate.

Sir Paul McCartney is a popular award-winning songwriter and a member of the 1960s rock group The Beatles.

His fortune just about stands worth £825 million according to the Sunday Times rich list. He is the richest musician in the UK.

Over all, Sir Paul is the 36th richest man in Britain's list of 1000 richest people.
During the Beatle days he was one half of the extremely successful songwriting team Lennon-McCartney, the other half being John Lennon, another band member.
Singles like "Can't Buy Me Love", "Yesterday", "Hello Goodbye", "Hey Jude", "Let It Be" and "The Long and Winding Road" have usually been credited to McCartney alone.
After the split of The Beatles on 10 April 1970, Sir Paul started a flourishing solo career and released his first album on 17 April 1970.

He is actually worth about $1.5 Billion. Most reports of his wealth are listed as English Pounds, not Dollars.

He is by far the richest musician in the world and probably in history. He is probably the wealthiest entertainer of any kind as well.

Paul McCartney is probably worth a number none of us could even count to or say, because of all the great number-one hit songs he wrote with John Lennon.

This has made him one of the richest people in the world. Same for all the other Beatles—without their influence, we would not have half the bands we have today, and the music world would not be the same.

David Bowie is not even close to what Sir Paul is worth. I don't know where you get your info from, but do the research.

Paul is at the top with an estimated 1.7 billion estate. Bowie is listed far below that. Sorry dude.

He is less that much because of Heather Mills taking most of his money. John Lennon is my favorite Beatle.

Apparently he isn't worth the £800m people say he is, it's more in the region of just over £300m.
