The song that opens up the curtain, figuratively speaking, on Gabriel Iglesias' live stand-up comedy show 'I'm Not Fat... I'm Fluffy', is a single released by the now officially defunct Mexican Cumbia band the Kumbia Kings (albeit reunions and tour collaborations between the former members have occurred since the split).
The song itself is a collaboration with Ozomatli; a further collective of musicians with a line up of six regular members, although the band has never had less than seven members at one time, and has boasted as many as ten members. Ozomatli play an eclectic fusion of hip-hop, jazz, Latin, reggae, funk and other musical styles. The single, called Mi Gente is available on both the Kumbia Kings fourth album, imaginatively titled '4' and on Ozomatli's Coming Up E.P, both recordings were released in 2003 also.
The founder members of the Kumbia Kings, A.B Quintanilla and Cruz Martinez have since founded their own individual projects; namely the Kumbia Allstars and Los Super Reyes (The Super Kings) respectively, with each spin off band enjoying great success in their own right, although it should be acknowledged that the latter ensemble is simply one incarnation of the Kumbia Kings minus Quintanilla.
Gabriel Iglesias is a stand-up comedian that won his fame appearing in the fourth series of the hit Comedy Central talent show Last Comic Standing, where he was disqualified for breaching the conditions of the show in 2006. Since his appearance he has released two DVDs: Hot and Fluffy (2007) and I'm Not Fat... I'm Fluffy (2009).
